About Petey

Sarah Petey Peterson has been belting it out as the vocalist for traditional jazz & blues outfit, Smoking Time Jazz Club, since its inception in 2010. She is a New Orleans based songwriter that can be heard performing her music with Bosques Fragmentados. Petey has participated in many music projects over the decades including the lovely quartet Painted Honey. Petey is a multidisciplinarian and weaves techniques from her earlier studies in theater (BFA/acting-Tisch/NYU) with those that have supported her throughout her years as a gigging musician to create a unique approach to voice work. She is an herbalist, dedicated yoga practitioner, has studied massage and traditional medicines- working with ear acupuncture in a harm reduction framework for 20+ years. She cooks and serves weekly with a group of friends dedicated to sharing hot meals with folks navigating food and housing instability. All of these actions and collaborations inform her wholistic, embodied approach to accessing and “opening” the voice. Petey offers 1 on 1 lessons, working with individuals from a myriad of backgrounds and with varying goals. She is excited to have expanded her work to a group setting starting the Fall of 2025 and hopes this group work will allow for broader accessibility and highlight community engagement - believing deeply that the sum is greater than its parts.
